The VUNRO ColorMax 13mm (1/2 inch) Wide Blade Guard Comb sits in the popular mid length range, leaving a soft, fuller coat that still holds its outline. It is the length groomers reach for when a dog needs a bit more body than a short trim allows but the shape has to stay crisp.

Grooming tips
  • Brush out tangles and mats, then wash and dry the coat completely.
  • Use light, consistent pressure with smooth, overlapping strokes. Do not force a guard through resistance.
  • Clip with the direction of coat growth for an even finish. Clipping against growth leaves a shorter result; start with a longer guard.
  • Use suitable scissors or smaller tools for paws, faces and fine detailing.
  • Check the blade temperature regularly and allow cooling breaks.

  • Ensure Thorough Coat Preparation: Always brush out tangles and mats before using wide comb attachments. Knots can cause the comb to snag, leading to uneven cuts and the risk of popping off mid-groom
  • Use with Proper Blade Size: Wide comb attachments work best with #10W, #15W, or #30W wide A5 blades. Avoid using them with any other blades, which can cause damage to both the blade and the comb​
  • Work on Clean, Dry Coats: For the best finish, make sure the coat is completely clean and dry. A well-prepped coat allows the comb to glide smoothly and reduces the need for multiple passes​
  • Use Reverse Grooming for Better Results: For smoother finishes, especially on straight, flat coats, start by clipping against the direction of the coat with a longer comb, then switch to a shorter comb with the coat's lay for a polished look
  • Monitor Blade and Comb Heat: Comb attachments can help reduce the heat transfer from metal blades, but always check the blade’s temperature during use. If the blade becomes too hot, switch to a cooled one or use a blade cooling spray

Which clippers and blades can I use this with?

Use an A5-compatible clipper fitted with a wide #10W, #15W or #30W blade. This includes suitable VUNRO, Wahl, Andis, Oster and Heiniger A5 clippers. Check the blade—not just the clipper brand. Standard-width A5, D-Series and trimmer blades do not fit.

Can I use this guard with any wide blade?

No. Use #10W, #15W or #30W only. Longer wide finishing blades are for clipping without a guard; they are not suitable base blades for this attachment.

Which coat types is it suitable for?

The reinforced comb is designed for thick, curly, long and double coats that have been thoroughly brushed out. Do not force it through matting. Choose the grooming approach appropriate for the individual coat.

Is it only for larger dogs?

The wider coverage is useful on larger body areas, but it can also help with suitable body work on smaller dogs. Use smaller tools for paws, faces and sanitary detail.

How do I clean and store it?

Remove hair and debris after each use. Rinse when needed, use a soft brush and dry completely before storing in a protective case. Maintain and oil the clipper blade as instructed.

Why can a guard pop off?

Knots, matting or an incorrectly seated guard can pull the attachment loose. Stop, check the fit and brush out the coat before continuing. Do not use a damaged guard.
